The Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex (CDRC) has a 13 metre by 25 metre, six lane, seasonal heated outdoor pool that offers swimming lessons and recreational programs to our community. The pool is open each year from mid-June to the end of August. If you would like to rent the pool or for more information contact the CDRC pool please see the contact information at the bottom of this page.
The CDRC Pool is now closed for the season. Check back in 2021 for information regarding our summer programs.

Check back in January 2021. Public swim sessionsPool toys and personal flotation aids are not available to use in the pool during public, family and parent and tot swims this season. Lifejackets are available if needed. Swimmers are encouraged to bring their own lifejackets, provided they are clean and in good condition. Most programs and activities are age specific. We ask that you respect the guidelines which were developed to serve the best interests of all participants, and to ensure an enjoyable experience in our programs. Family and parent & tot swims are targeted to families and caregivers with young children. Adult/senior swims are targeted to adults, seniors and special needs patrons. Lane swims are available to those able to swim lengths. Recreational swimming hours may change due to special events or program needs. Changes will be posted on the website www.shelburne.ca.
Public swim admission standardsAges 5 years and underChildren 5 years of age and under must be within arm's reach of caregiver (near enough to reach swimmer by extending one's arms) 14 years of age and older. There is a maximum of 2 children per caregiver. Ages 6 - 9Children aged 6 -9 must be directly supervised by caregiver (in the water and able to provide immediate assistance) 14 years of age and older. There is a maximum of 4 children per caregiver. Ages 10 years and overChildren aged 10 and older may be admitted to the pool unaccompanied, individuals may be asked to demonstrate their swimming ability by passing a facility swim test prior to being allowed in the deep end of the pool. The facility swim test consist of swimming 25 metres with the ability to put face in the water, taking at least 1 breath without feet on the bottom of pool, and treading water for 1 minute. The swim admission standard applies to all swims. Aquatics staff may ask for a demonstration of swimming ability if they feel there is a question of a participants safety. Directly supervisingCaregiver is in the water, eyes on children, able to verbally communicate with children and be able to quickly approach them at any time in the water. |

Advanced swimming certificates |

We offer the following advanced swimming certificate programs. These programs are for those who want to work towards lifeguard training and certification. Junior lifeguard clubThis is an opportunity for children ages 8-13 to learn about first aid and lifeguarding skills while having fun with friends competing in challenges, team building and activities around the pool. Interested children must be able to swim confidently in the deep end and meet the age requirement. It is an excellent opportunity to meet friends, keep up with swimming skills as well as learn new skills. This program will require a minimum 6 participants to run. PrerequisiteParticipants must be between the ages of 8-13 years old and confident swimming in the deep end. Date and timeThis program includes 5 classes.
Bronze starBronze star is excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion. Participants develop problem solving and decision-making skills individually and in partners. Candidates learn CPR and develop the lifesaving skills needed to be their own lifeguard. This program will need minimum 5 candidates to run. PrerequisiteYou must be at least 11 years old and confident swimming in the deep end. Date and timeThis program includes 10 classes:
Bronze medallion and emergency first aidCandidates learn tows and carries, and defense methods and releases in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a 500m timed swim. Cost includes exam fee. This program will require a minimum 5 candidates to run. Bronze crossThis course is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguarding and Instructor certification. Includes a 600m swim. Cost includes exam fee. Red Cross Water Safety Instructors CourseThe Water Safety Instructor (WSI) course prepares candidates to instruct the Red Cross swim programs. Candidates focus on strategies to introduce and develop fitness activities, skills and water safety and swimming skills in the Red Cross Swim Preschool, Swim Kids and additional programs. The course consists of 4 components: skills evaluation, online training, teaching experience and classroom/pool component. PrerequisiteCandidates be 15 years old by the end last day of the WSI-Classroom/Pool and hold an Emergency First Aid certification or higher. Lifeguard/Instructor PreparationThis program is designed to prepare swimmers for future completion of Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor programs. Participants will be introduced to techniques for teaching swimming lessons and begin practicing skills to be successful in both certification courses. This is not a required course. PrerequisiteCompletion of Bronze Medallion Date and timeTo be determined. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact the CDRC. National Lifeguard and Standard First Aid/CPR -CThis certification is designed to develop a candidate's judgement, understanding of lifeguard principles and a mature and responsible attitude toward the lifeguard's role. National Lifeguard training emphasizes prevention and effective rescue response in emergencies including first aid treatment. Candidates develop teamwork, leadership and communication skills. Fitness requirements. PrerequisiteCandidates be 15 years old by the end last day of the National Lifeguard Course and hold proof of Bronze Cross certification. Payments |
We accept exact cash and debit, HST is additional to fees where applicable. For confirmation, payment must be made at time of registration. Receipts will be issued at the time of registration. |
Cancellations & refunds |
What happens if I miss a lesson?If you miss a lesson, you will not be rescheduled or refunded. It is always best to check the dates and times that have been scheduled for your lessons. Refunds will not be issued due to weather conditions or pool fouling. Can I receive a refund if I need to withdraw from a program or if it is cancelled?Refunds requested prior to the program start date will receive a full refund, less a $10 administration fee. Refunds will not be issued for programs if two or more classes have occurred. For refunds requested prior to the second class a prorated refund less a $10 administration fee will be issued. Full refunds will be issued for all programs cancelled by the CDRC. Withdrawal request from a program for medical reasons will be considered on an individual basis and may require a medical note. Please allow 4 - 6 weeks to process a refund. How do I apply for a refund?All refund requests must be addressed to the Facility Administration Manager and must be in writing (including e-mail).

Additional fees |
Non-Resident FeeAll programs offered by the CDRC are subsidized by municipal taxes from our funding municipalities, which include: The Town of Shelburne, The Town of Mono, the Township of Amaranth and the Township of Melanchthon. To keep the cost low for residents who contribute to the CDRC, through their municipal taxes, a user fee of $12.00 per participant is added to the registration costs for non-residents. A non-resident is defined as anyone who does not pay property taxes directly to the funding municipalities. The CDRC reserves the right to request proof of residency. NSF Cheque FeeThere is a $25 fee for returned cheque. If your payment is returned, we will require the full payment plus the NSF fee paid by cash, debit or certified cheque to remain registered in the program. Additional Copy FeeTo reprint or copy tax receipts, a $5 fee per session, per program will apply.

Changerooms |
The changerooms will be open for washroom use only with a maximum of 2 people at a time. Lockers and changing area will be closed for the 2020 summer season. Bathers must arrive at the pool in their swimwear and each group will be assigned a section on the pool deck to keep their belongings, 2m away from other groups. Babies should wear baby swim diapers or plastic pants under a bathing suit. |
Accessibility |
The CDRC pool has a chairlift available for getting in and out of the water. When you arrive at the facility contact a staff member for assistance with the proper entrance and equipment. Gradual steps into the water are also available. |
Medical conditions |
Patrons with pre-existing health conditions are at higher risk and it is recommended that they do not participate in or attend any of the programs at this facility. |
Personal property |
Participants are responsible for their person belongings while participating in programs. The CDRC assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen items. Lockers will not be available for the 2020 season. All personal belongings will be left in a designated space on the pool deck. The CDRC encourages participants to arrive at the pool with minimal personal belongings. |
Physical distancing at the CDRC Pool |
All swimmers and lifeguards must maintain 2m of physical distance. Participants must maintain a 2m distance from anyone swimming in the pool that is not apart of their immediate household or social circle. The CDRC encourages all patrons apart of an immediate household/social circle to arrive together. If patrons are not following physical distancing rules they will be asked to leave the facility. |
Photographs/videos |
All program participants must have completed/signed a waiver for photography. Photographic/video equipment (including personal digital assistants and cellular phones) are not allowed in changerooms, washrooms or program spaces. Taking photos or videos of participants during programs is not permitted. Participants will be asked for written permission to have photographs taken by the media or CDRC staff for promotional purposes. |

Residents of Shelburne are eligible to receive a partial refund of fees (residential to non-residential rate) when the Shelburne outdoor pool is closed. This refund is applicable for learn to swim programs for children only. If you would like to apply for a reimbursement please complete the aquatic program reimbursement form.
