Be COVID Wise

As the community continues its gradual staged approach to reopening, (Stage 3), Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) encourages you to go about your daily activities while protecting yourself and others. Please follow these recommended precautions and be COVIDWise to help keep COVID-19 under control.

W – Wear a mask or face covering when you are working or visiting in an indoor public and/or  when you cannot maintain a physical distance of two metres (six feet).

I – Isolate yourself from others when you are sick (and get tested promptly if you have COVID-like symptoms).

S – Stay two metres (six feet) apart from those outside your household.

E – Exercise proper hand hygiene; wash your hands regularly or use sanitizer especially before touching your face.

Local Reusable Face Masks

Wearing a face covering in Dufferin County is now mandatory when working or visiting a Commercial Establishment.  Dr. Nicola Mercer has issued an order under Section 22 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act

Important information

Medical masks, including surgical, medical procedure face masks, and respirators are in short supply and should be kept for healthcare workers and others providing direct care to COVID-19 patients.

While wearing a non-medical mask has not been proven to protect the person wearing it, it can reduce the chance that others come into contact with the wearer’s respiratory droplets – just like coughing into your sleeve instead of into your hands.

It is important to understand that non-medical masks have limitations and need to be used safely. If you choose to use a non-medical face mask, be sure to wash your hands immediately before putting it on and immediately after taking it off. When wearing a mask, be sure to avoid touching your face. It should fit well to ensure that air flows through the mask and not around it. You should not share your mask with others. Non-medical masks should not be placed on children under the age of two; anyone who has trouble breathing; or anyone who is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance. Remember that non-medical masks alone will not prevent the spread of COVID-19. You must consistently and strictly adhere to good hygiene and public health measures, including frequent hand washing and physical (social) distancing. We recommend you regularly review and monitor guidance set out by relevant health authorities, including from the Government of Canada.

Tips to stay safe

  • Stay home if you are not feeling well
  • Wash your hands often
  • If you are ill or have travelled outside of Canada, please self-isolate and monitor yourself for a period of 14 days
  • Keep surfaces clean and disinfected at work and at home
  • Social Distancing - Limit all non-essential social interaction to the extent possible. When you do have to interact (employment, medical appointments, food shopping), please try to maintain reasonable distances and avoid any unnecessary physical contact such as handshakes and hugs. Together, we can slow the spread of COVID-19 by making a conscious effort to keep a physical distance between each other. Physical distancing is proven to be one of the most effective ways to reduce the spread of illness during an outbreak. With patience and cooperation, we can all do our part. To learn more please visit the Government of Canada webpage on Social Distancing
  • Ensure that your family has an adequate supply of food and toiletries but please DO NOT engage in “panic buying” or hoarding. We are assured that supply chains of all essential items remain intact, but retailers are experiencing difficulties in maintaining stock due many people buying more than they need or can use. Please be considerate
  • Continue to practice general infection prevention control including regular hand washing with soap and hot water, avoid touching your face, covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze, cleaning and disinfecting regularly handled objects such as phones, door knobs, etc.
  • Frequently visit this website, along with the Provincial and Federal government websites for the latest information
