The northern landscape is my inspiration for this series of paintings, evoking the spirit & sense of the North, the quiet solitude & clean air, pristine rivers, lakes, rock formations, flora & fauna that delight the senses.
This is my way of recording & interpreting all of these elements through my paintings & the energy within.
Brian Blakeman was born in Staffordshire, England. He was trained in decorative design at Northwich and Stockport Art Colleges. Entering the wall covering design field, he trained in all aspects of design engraving and printing.
In a career spanning 30 years, Brian explored all aspects of the decorative design field, including fabrics, floor, and wall coverings. He worked from initial design concepts to final product development and marketing.
Travelling and working internationally brought Brian to Canada in 1987. In the years that ensued, Brian launched his own freelance design company.
Hs extensive arts background dovetailed with his awareness and involvement with environmental issues, brings a sympathetic understanding to his landscape paintings.
As a naturalist, Brian is interested in portraying the details of nature, as well as capturing light and its effect on landscape.
Newer work depicts images of the Bruce Peninsula, Grey County, a favorite place to visit for inspiration, with its impactful rock formations, sweeping skies and stunning lakes.
As an artist, there is a constant challenge to capture changing water surfaces, and the patterns beneath. Wave movement intrigues the designer in me, and as a naturalist water reflects the vitality of life itself.
