Parking during winter months

To allow for snow removal during winter months, the Town of Shelburne has winter parking regulations.

Starting every November 15 at midnight vehicles are not allowed to be parked on any roadway between midnight and 8:00 a.m. every day.  These restrictions are in place until midnight on April 15, 2025.

By-law 8-1983  is not dependent on snowfall or any other weather conditions. Regardless of weather conditions parking on all roadways is prohibited during these hours.

Vehicles parked on the road during winter operations,​ overhanging the curb or blocking the sidewalk will be ticketed $40.00.

Why is street parking prohibited in the winter?

Parking on the roadblocks access for snow clearing crews and delays service. It can also prevent roads from receiving their proper level of service. Often, plowing occurs overnight to prepare for the next day, and parked cars means roads cannot be completed. Snow-clearing operations includes plowing, salting, sanding and removal.

What are the parking restrictions?

Overnight parking – 12:00 AM (midnight) and 8:00 AM

This applies to all roads in Shelburne, not just residential streets. Vehicles parked on any road in Shelburne overnight may receive a $40 ticket per violation.

Daytime parking - prior to streets being plowed/during heavy snowfalls

If your road has not been plowed or there is a heavy snowfall occurring/significant weather event, do not park on the road.

Overnight winter parking

Parking on the Apron portion of your driveway in the Town of Shelburne is permitted, however there are specific guidelines as to how you can park on this section. 

The graphics below demonstrate the correct and incorrect ways to use this space on a single and shared driveway. Your tires must be in the allowable space in order to avoid a ticket. In a shared driveway, your vehicle cannot impede access for your neighbour.

Where can I park?

Overnight winter parking is available in the parking lot at the Wellington Street Parking Lot. The Wellington Street Parking Lot is located between the North Side of Wellington Street and the South side of Red Front Store Lane.  To obtain a parking permit visit the parking permit webpage.

To report a snow related concern on residential roads and sidewalks in Shelburne, you can complete the online report a concern form or call the Operations, Parks and Facilities Clerk at the Town of Shelburne 519-925-2600 extension 261.

If this is an after-hours emergency, please call 519-939-1342.  Public Works staff are available 24 hours a day. 

How to pay your parking ticket

If you receive a parking ticket in the Town of Shelburne for violating the Parking and Traffic bylaw, you can pay your ticket online, in person or by mail within 14 days of the alleged infraction.

You can pay for your parking ticket online, over the phone or in person.

To make an online payment, you will need:

• The parking ticket number (begins with the letter D or F)
• Your credit card (Visa or Mastercard)
• The amount owing

You will pay an additional convenience fee of $1.95 per $25
