Guest Speaker

This Year’s guest speaker is  Steve Wever, MCIP, RPP  Associate and Senior Planner with the firm GSP Group Inc. and Town of Shelburne Planner. Steve's presentation will explore Shelburne’s evolution as a Complete Community highlighting changes of the past, present and new plans for the future that are now in the making.

Shelburne as a Complete Community - Nearly fourteen years ago the first Provincial Growth Plan in Ontario was released for the area known as the Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH), a broad and fast-growing region with the largest concentration of people and jobs in Canada. Dufferin County and the Town of Shelburne are within the “outer ring” of the GGH. As of the 2016 Census, Shelburne became the fastest growing small town in Ontario, and the second fastest in Canada. This explosive growth brings both opportunities and challenges.

With the third generation of the Growth Plan released in 2019, Provincial directions for how communities should grown have continued to change. A central concept and principal of the Growth Plan is to achieve “Complete Communities”. The Growth Plan even endeavours to define this term, albeit in a general way to recognize the wide diversity of communities throughout the region which includes everything from the large city metropolis known as the GTA to small towns and villages in more remote rural settings.
