2026 Municipal Election - Candidate Nominations & Third Party Advertiser Registration
The Town of Shelburne will hold its Municipal Election on Monday, October 26, 2026. This notice provides information for individuals who are considering running for municipal office or registering as a third party advertiser in the Town of Shelburne.
Candidate Nominations
Individuals wishing to run for a municipal office may file a nomination with an appointment during regular business hours beginning Friday, May 1, 2026. The deadline to file a nomination is Friday, August 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
Nomination forms must be filed with the Clerk and must include:
- The prescribed nomination filing fee:
- $200.00 for Head of Council (Mayor)
- $100.00 for all other offices
- Endorsements from at least 25 eligible electors
- Payment by cash, debit, certified cheque, or money order
Candidates may not raise or spend any campaign funds until their nomination has been officially filed.
Nomination forms are available from the Office of the Clerk.
Third Party Advertisers
A third party advertiser is any individual, corporation or trade union that causes an election campaign advertisement to appear. Third party advertisers are required to register with the Clerk of the municipality where they want to advertise. Registrations of third party advertisers will be accepted between Friday, May 1, 2026 and Friday, October 23, 2026.
Third party advertisers must register with the Clerk of the municipality in which they intend to advertise.
Registration for third party advertisers will be accepted from Friday, May 1, 2026 to Friday, October 23, 2026.
A third party advertiser may not:
- Spend money on advertising,
- Accept contributions, or
- Begin advertising
until their registration has been certified by the Clerk.
Registration forms are available from the Office of the Clerk.
An appointment is required for filing nomination forms and third party advertisement.
