Be a Hydrant Hero: Help Keep Our Community Safe This Winter

As winter storms blanket our streets, snow-covered fire hydrants can delay emergency response when every second counts. The Town of Shelburne is asking residents to become Hydrant Heroes by clearing snow and ice from hydrants near their homes or businesses.

Firefighters need at least 3 feet of clearance around the hydrant and a clear path to the street to connect hoses quickly during an emergency. A blocked hydrant could mean precious minutes lost when fighting a fire or saving lives.

How You Can Help:

  • After each snowfall, check hydrants near your property.
  • Clear snow and ice from all sides and make sure the hydrant is visible from the street.
  • If you see a hydrant buried under snow, take a few minutes to dig it out it could save a life.

Let’s work together to keep our community safe. Be a Hydrant Hero today!
