COVID 19 Update April 9, 2021

COVID-19 Update from Mayor Wade Mills April 9, 2021

There were 4,227 new COVID-19 cases reported in Ontario today which is the second highest daily case count that we have seen since the beginning of the pandemic.  Province-wide, our cumulative reported totals are now 378,339 cases, 341,200 resolved cases, 7,512 reported deaths. It is also being reported that there are currently 552 patients currently in ICU which is the highest number we have seen to date and 359 of those are on ventilators.

Within the Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health region, we have seen an additional 87 new cases reported since yesterday. We currently have 441 active cases throughout the region which is up significantly from last Friday. There are currently 31 health unit residents in hospital. Within Dufferin County specifically, we have had 19 new cases reported within the last 24-hour period. Our current active case count stands at 94 for the county which is also a much higher count than last week. There are no Dufferin County residents being reported as in hospital but Headwaters is reporting two patients who are positive for COVID-19. Within the Town of Shelburne, it is reported that we have 12 residents who are currently positive.

As I am sure you all know, Ontario is again under a provincial Stay-at-Home order which came into effect as of 12:01am yesterday. This order imposes additional restrictions to the “Emergency Brake” lockdown announced last week and all residents are urged to stay home except for essential reasons. Full details of the order can be found at https://www.ontario.ca/page/enhancing-public-health-and-workplace-safety-measures-provincewide-shutdown

As difficult as it is becoming, I still urge all residents to follow the direction of public health officials and please register for your vaccinations as soon as you are eligible. Again, the link to our local vaccine registry is https://register.wdgpublichealth.ca/

Please be well,

Mayor Wade Mills
