Covid 19 Update August 6, 2021

COVID-19 Update from Mayor Wade Mills

August 6, 2021

There were 340 new COVID-19 cases reported in Ontario today which is the highest single-day increase since June 26th. Province-wide, our cumulative reported totals are now 551,678 cases, 540,407 resolved cases, and 9,392 reported deaths. There are currently 114 patients hospitalized with the virus with 110 currently in ICU and 76 on ventilators. Approximately 81% of eligible Ontarians have received at least one dose of the vaccine and over 71% have now been fully vaccinated.

Within the Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health region, we have had seven additional new cases reported since yesterday. We currently have 30 active cases throughout the region and there are currently four health unit residents in hospital. Within Dufferin County specifically, we have had five new cases reported within the last 24-hour period. Our current active case count stands at eight for the county but no Dufferin residents are being reported as hospitalized. There are NO reported cases within the Town of Shelburne currently. The vaccination rates within Dufferin County show that 78.4% of eligible residents have received at least one dose, and 67.2% have been fully vaccinated – we are slightly below the provincial rates and I encourage everyone to get their vaccinations as soon as they can.

Enjoy the weekend!

Mayor Wade Mills
