Covid 19 update Dec. 4

COVID-19 Update from Mayor Wade Mills

December 4, 2020

There were 1,780 new COVID-19 cases reported in Ontario today. Province-wide, our cumulative reported totals now sit at 123,526 cases, 104,792 resolved cases, 3,737 reported deaths, and 674 patients currently hospitalized.

Within the Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health region, we have seen 54 new cases reported since yesterday. We now have 173 active cases throughout the region and 10 people in hospital. Within Dufferin County specifically, we have six new cases reported within the last 24-hour period and our current active case count stands at 30, with three hospitalizations. Public Health began reporting municipal-specific case numbers this week and it is being disclosed that a total of five active cases current exist within the Town of Shelburne.

Ontario’s task force to coordinate the vaccine distribution effort within the Province met today under the leadership of retired Canadian Armed Forces General Rick Hillier. The task force reviewed the “priority populations” which will be first in line to receive the vaccine and includes our front-line health care workers and nursing home residents. Hillier has signaled that Ontario should be ready to start rolling out the vaccine by December 31st.

Have a great weekend, stay safe and stay well.

Mayor Wade Mills
