COVID 19 Update February 19, 2021

COVID-19 Update from Mayor Wade Mills February 19, 2021

There were 1,150 new COVID-19 cases reported in Ontario today which is the second day in a row that this number has been over 1,000.  Province-wide, our cumulative reported totals now sit at 290,771 cases, 273,401 resolved cases, 6,820 reported deaths, and 689 patients currently hospitalized. It is also being reported that there are currently 269 patients currently in ICU and 190 of those are on ventilators.

Within the Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health region, we have seen an additional 11 new cases reported since yesterday. We currently have 137 active cases throughout the region which again is down from last week. There are currently 10 health unit residents in hospital. Within Dufferin County specifically, we have had only one new case reported within the last 24-hour period which is fantastic news. Our current active case count stands at 21 for the county. Headwaters Healthcare Centre is reporting that they do not currently have any patients with COVID-19 which is also great news. Public Health is also reporting that we are back down to only one case among residents of Shelburne.

The phased roll-back of lockdown measures came into effect this week and we are currently back to the RED – Control category. The protocols associated with that category are widely available on the provincial government’s website.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health has rolled out its vaccination strategy which will include additional local vaccination sites outside of Guelph. Depending upon the stability of supply, it is expected that this will materialize in the coming weeks and that those people 80 years of age and over will begin being vaccinated. I am being advised that public health is coordinating through family physicians and that residents will be contacted once they are able to attend for vaccination.

I wish you all well and thank you for your continued efforts – they are appreciated. Stay safe!

Mayor Wade Mills
