COVID 19 Update July 15
COVID-19 Update from Mayor Wade Mills July 15, 2020
Ontario is reporting only 102 new cases within the past 24 hours which is the lowest daily increase since that we have seen since late March. This brings our cumulative reported provincial totals to 37,052 cases, 32,920 resolved cases, and 2,732 total reported deaths. Locally within the Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health region, we have seen some minor adjustments to the numbers reported on Monday. Our cumulative total for the region is now at 497 cases, with only 17 active cases and no hospitalizations. For Dufferin County, our cumulative case total is at 190, with only three current active cases and no reported hospitalizations. We should be proud of these local numbers and I encourage everyone to keep up the great work. As we prepare to enter into Phase Three of the provincial re-opening as of this Friday, please continue to act responsibly and let’s not erase the tremendous progress that we have achieved together!
In preparation of Phase Three, our local Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health unit has issued an update to its current orders. Some of the changes include more clarity on what situations a face covering is not required or when it can be removed, clear guidance for establishments on how to respond to exemptions and an expanded list of commercial establishments in line with businesses that will be opening in Stage Three. Rather than try to distill all of the information in this post, please refer to the following links for detailed information directly from Public Health.

Our local MP Kyle Seeback confirmed today that the Canada-U.S. border will remain closed to all non-essential travel until at least August 21st.
Council met virtually on Monday evening and worked through an extremely lengthy agenda. We had some planning matters to consider, received a presentation on behalf of the Dufferin County Canadian Black Association, received reports on sewage capacity and development updates as well as a financial update from our Treasurer. Of particular note (as it relates to COVID-19), the third phase of our local relief package will require residents to “opt-in” to the relief program rather than offering the assistance package to all residents whether they need the assistance or not. For assistance with taxes, please contact 519-925-2600 (ext. 253) or email taxes@shelburne.ca and for assistance with water/sewer bills, please call 519-925-2600 (ext. 231) or email water@shelburne.ca
Council was also set to receive and consider a report regarding the OPP costing but we deferred that matter to a Special Meeting that I have called for this evening beginning at 8:30 pm. As always, this meeting will be live streamed and can be viewed on the Town of Shelburne’s YouTube channel which can be accessed through this link https://bit.ly/3dEbQur
Please be well and check back Friday for the next update.
