COVID 19 Update July 22
COVID-19 Update from Mayor Wade Mills
July 22, 2020
Yesterday, Ontario experienced the highest spike in new cases in three weeks. 203 new cases were reported yesterday with notable upticks in Ottawa, Peel Region, and Windsor-Essex. Although down slightly today, the number of new cases is still higher than what we have been seeing on a fairly consistent basis over the past few weeks. Within the past 24 hours, 165 new cases were added which brings our cumulative reported provincial totals to 38,107 cases, 33,812 resolved cases, and 2,755 total reported deaths. Luckily, the provincial upward trends do not seem to be translating locally. Within the Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health region, our cumulative total is now at 514 cases, with 22 active cases and one hospitalization. For Dufferin County, our cumulative case total remains unchanged at 189.
Many of the new cases being reported throughout the province are among younger people. The Premier urged the demographic group to start taking the matter more seriously and to avoid large parties, which in part, may be contributing to the recent growth of numbers. It is still too early to tell what effect the recent introduction of Phase Three will have on our provincial trend lines.
We should all take some pride in the fact that our local numbers are remaining static. Obviously, we are doing a number of things right. The challenge now, is to maintain that discipline going forward so that we do not begin a backslide.
Stay safe, be well, and take care of each other!
