COVID 19 Update July 24

COVID-19 Update from Mayor Wade Mills July 24, 2020

Today, Ontario has seen the second highest daily increase in new cases since the end of June with 195 new cases being reported. 66% of those new cases are among those 40 years of age and under which is line with recent demographic trends. Most of the new cases are concentrated within the known “hotspots” throughout the province. These new cases bring our cumulative reported provincial totals to 38,405 cases, 34,100 resolved cases, and 2,758 total reported deaths.

We have seen three new cases within the Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health region within the past 24 hours which brings our cumulative regional totals to 520 cases, 27 active cases and one hospitalization. Two of the three new cases are being reported from within Dufferin County, which increases our cumulative case total (which had remained unchanged for a number of days) to 191. Only three of those 191 are considered active and thankfully, there are no current hospitalizations within the county.

Most of the province is now into Phase Three with the exception of Toronto, Peel and Windsor-Essex. The Premier today indicated that any announcement about these three remaining regions will not come before next Wednesday. The Premier also commented that the recent fluctuation in new case numbers is “concerning” and that more time is needed to analyze the situation before opening the remaining regions up.

Please enjoy your weekend!
