COVID 19 Update July 8
COVID-19 Update from Mayor Wade Mills
July 8, 2020
As it stands right now, Canada has had a total of 106,347 cumulative cases (201 new cases). Of those, 70,085 have recovered and 8,733 have passed away.
Ontario is reporting only 118 new cases within the past 24 hours which brings our cumulative reported provincial totals to 36,178 cases, 31,805 resolved cases, and 2,700 total reported deaths. We are now in the fifth week of a downward trend in the number of new cases province-wide.
Locally within the Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health region, we have seen no new cases reported within the past 24 hours and our cumulative total remains at 492 cases. Currently, there are 29 active cases within the health unit’s jurisdiction area, and two hospitalizations. There have also been no new cases within Dufferin County and our cumulative case total sits at 189 but only eight current active cases and no reported hospitalizations.
Legislation was introduced in the Ontario Legislature yesterday that would effectively extend a number of the pandemic-related emergency measures for as long as a year even if the official Declaration of Emergency is lifted. This will allow the provincial government to continue to exercise a wider degree of decision-making authority. It is expected that the current Declaration of Emergency (currently set to expire on July 15th) will be extended to July 24th in order to allow time for this legislation to pass.
Please stay well and make sure that you are getting lots of fluids in this extreme heat!
