Covid 19 Update June 11 2021

COVID-19 Update from Mayor Wade Mills

June 11, 2021

There were 574 new COVID-19 cases reported in Ontario today which is again is down significantly over last week.  Province-wide, our cumulative reported totals are now 538,651 cases, 523,532 resolved cases, and 8,935 reported deaths. It is also being reported that there are currently 489 patients hospitalized with the virus with 440 currently in ICU and 292 on ventilators.

Within the whole Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health region, we have seen only one new case reported since yesterday. We currently have 82 active cases throughout the region. There are currently 19 health unit residents in hospital. Within Dufferin County specifically, we have not had any new cases reported within the last 24-hour period which is great news. Our current active case count stands at 17 for the county. There are eight Dufferin County residents being reported as in hospital. Within the Town of Shelburne, it is reported that we are down to four residents who are currently positive.

As of today, Ontario has entered into Step 1 of the province’s “Roadmap to Reopen”. This move allows for outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people, patio dining for four people per table (exception for larger families from the same household), some outdoor attractions, overnight camping, outdoor fitness classes, and day camps for children. It also means that essential retail can be open to 25% capacity and non-essential stores can accommodate up to 15% capacity.

From all reports, people are taking full advantage of these looser restrictions and line ups are quite long. Please be patient with our store and restaurant employees who are doing their best to accommodate their excited customers. Please also be patient and courteous with other shoppers if you are required to wait in lines. We have all waited a long time for this day to come so let’s try to keep smiles on our faces and be friendly and neighbourly with each other.

Enjoy the weekend, be safe, and stay smart,

Mayor Wade Mills
