COVID-19 Update from Mayor Wade Mills June 4, 2021

There were 914 new COVID-19 cases reported in Ontario today which is a number that continues to go down week over week.  Province-wide, our cumulative reported totals are now 534,675 cases, 516,396 resolved cases, and 8,820 reported deaths. It is also being reported that there are currently 687 patients hospitalized with the virus with 522 currently in ICU and 357 on ventilators.

Within the Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health region, we have seen an additional 12 new cases reported since yesterday. We currently have 137 active cases throughout the region. There are currently 25 health unit residents in hospital. Within Dufferin County specifically, we have had only one new case reported within the last 24-hour period. Our current active case count stands at 33 for the county. There are four Dufferin County residents being reported as in hospital. Within the Town of Shelburne, it is reported that we have five residents who are currently positive which is down significantly from recent weeks.

The Stay-at-Home order officially ended this week but all other measures and restrictions mandated by the provincial government remain in place and unchanged. We are expected to enter into Step One of the new “Roadmap to Reopen” as of the week of June 14^th which will see things gradually begin to open up.  It was also officially announced this week that students will not be returning to in-class learning this year so parents and students will have to round out this year online.
