COVID 19 Update March 5, 2021
COVID-19 Update from Mayor Wade Mills March 5, 2021
There were 1,250 new COVID-19 cases reported in Ontario today. Province-wide, our cumulative reported totals are now 306,007 cases, 288,383 resolved cases, 7,046 reported deaths, and 643 patients currently hospitalized. It is also being reported that there are currently 280 patients currently in ICU and 183 of those are on ventilators. All of our provincial hospitalization metrics are down slightly over last week.
Within the Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health region, we have seen an additional 17 new cases reported since yesterday. We currently have 164 active cases throughout the region which is up slightly from last Friday. There are currently 14 health unit residents in hospital. Within Dufferin County specifically, we have had nine new case reported within the last 24-hour period. Our current active case count stands at 30 for the county and three Dufferin County residents are being reported as in hospital. Headwaters Healthcare Centre however, is reporting that they do not have any COVID-19-positive patients. After making it through all of last week without any active cases among residents of Shelburne, it is reported that we currently have two residents who have tested positive.
Today brought some more good news with respect to the vaccination effort as Health Canada has now approved the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine. As reported earlier, our health unit is currently working on getting vaccinations into the arms of our residents over 80, and local efforts in this regard have been noted and commended at the provincial level. Residents who are over 80 years of age can register at https://register.wdgpublichealth.ca
Please be well and enjoy the weekend!
