COVID-19 Update from Mayor Wade Mills May 21, 2021
There were 1,896 new COVID-19 cases reported in Ontario today which is down again from last week. Province-wide, our cumulative reported totals are now 518,980 cases, 488,201 resolved cases, and 8,579 reported deaths. It is also being reported that there are currently 1,265 patients hospitalized with the virus with 715 currently in ICU and 510 on ventilators.
Within the Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health region, we have seen an additional 25 new cases reported since yesterday. We currently have 253 active cases throughout the region. There are currently 26 health unit residents in hospital. Within Dufferin County specifically, we have had 6 new cases reported within the last 24-hour period. Our current active case count stands at 72 for the county. There are 8 Dufferin County residents being reported as in hospital. Within the Town of Shelburne, it is reported that we have 18 residents who are currently positive which is down again over last week.
As announced yesterday, the province will be rolling out a three-step re-opening plan which can be found at: https://news.ontario.ca/en/backgrounder/1000159/roadmap-to-reopen While step one of that plan is not expected to begin until the week of June 14th, some interim opening measures will become effective at 12:01am tomorrow which include the limited re-opening of some outdoor recreational amenities and an expansion to the outdoor gathering limits to five people.
