Covid 19 update October 16
COVID-19 Update from Mayor Wade Mills
October 16, 2020
Ontario’s daily case count remains high with 712 new cases being reported today. Most of the new cases continue to be reported from the known provincial “hot spots”. Province-wide, our cumulative reported totals now sit at 62,908 cases, 54,004 resolved cases, 3,031reported deaths, and 261 current hospitalizations.
Within the Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health region, we have had nine new cases reported with the past 24 hours bringing our cumulative totals to 760 cases, 49 active cases, but no current hospitalizations. Within Dufferin County, our cumulative total now sits at 251 cases with only one new case being added within the past 24 hours. There are currently 20 active cases being reported within Dufferin but still no hospitalizations.
As reported last week, Toronto, Ottawa, and Peel Region were all rolled back to “modified Stage Two” statuses which saw the closure of indoor dining and gym classes among other things. This will remain in effect until at least the end of the month. The Premier has indicated that his government is considering an expansion of those restrictions to other regions as both York and Halton are experiencing concerning upticks. Premier Ford has made it clear that he will continue to take a regional approach to future economic restrictions and that his decisions will be based on hard facts and evidence to support such restrictions.
While we have been relatively fortunate to avoid major surges locally, our continued good fortune will largely depend upon our continued ability to do what is required. The best approach that we can take is to keep adhering to the simple public health guidelines – maintain physical distance, wash/sanitize your hands regularly, wear your masks while you’re out, avoid unnecessary large gatherings, and stay home if you’re sick. These simple steps have served us well for the past several months and will continue to do so as long we remain collectively committed.
Stay well, be kind, and continue to look out for each other. Have a great weekend!
