Dec 24,2022: Shelburne declares Significant Weather Event

The Town of Shelburne has declared a Significant Weather Event: Travel is dangerous and is not advised

December 24, 2022

The Town continues to plow roads, but we are strongly recommending that residents do not use roads and strongly encourage residents to stay home, stay safe and not travel on Town roads. Please note that all Dufferin County roads have been closed.

Significant Weather Events

A Significant Weather Event means an approaching or occurring weather hazard has the potential to pose a significant danger to users of the road network within a municipality. Winter hazards consist of:

  • Snow accumulation of 25 cm or more during a 24-hour period.
  • Ice formation to last more than a 12-hour period.
  • Sustained wind speeds of more than 40 km/hour causing reduction in visibility of 400m or less, over a four-hour period.

When a municipality declares a significant event, the road network is considered to be in a state of repair. Being in a state of repair means that the municipality is providing the best service possible, however, additional cautions should still be observed while using the road network, as it may take longer to perform typical winter maintenance activities.
