Development & Operations Preparing for Seasonal Maintenance
As Shelburne moves out of winter, the Town’s Development & Operations Department is preparing for the transition into spring and summer maintenance. Work across roads, sidewalks, parks, and trails is planned and scheduled over the coming months, with timelines varying depending on weather conditions and operational priorities.
While some early inspections and cleanup efforts begin in March and April, the majority of seasonal maintenance activities particularly those requiring dry, warm conditions will begin mid-to-late April (weather dependent) and continue through May and June.
Planned seasonal work includes:
- Damaged Grass Repair – Restoring areas affected by winter plowing and sanding.
- Gravel Surface Maintenance – Grading and replenishing gravel shoulders, laneways, and pathways.
- Parks and Trails Cleanup – Removing debris, litter, and fallen branches from green spaces and trail systems.
- Pothole Repairs – Addressing road damage resulting from freeze–thaw cycles.
- Sidewalk Inspections – Identifying trip hazards and areas requiring maintenance.
- Street Sweeping – Clearing accumulated sand, salt, and debris from streets and sidewalks.
- Stump Removal – Removing tree stumps left from winter or prior removals.
- Line Painting – Refreshing road markings, crosswalks, and parking areas.
- Catch Basin Cleaning – Ensuring stormwater infrastructure remains clear and functional.
Residents are encouraged to report issues such as potholes, damaged grass, gravel concerns, or other maintenance needs by completing the Town’s Report a Concern Form. Submissions help staff log, prioritize, and address items as part of scheduled spring and summer work.
