Mayor Mills Extends Sympathy to the Muslim Community

June 10, 2021

The Town of Shelburne  extends our sympathies to the Muslim community of Shelburne and across Dufferin County. The  intentional act of violence and hate-motivated attack on a Muslim family in London on June 6, 2021, which killed four members and left a young boy in serious condition in hospital and without a family is abhorrent and despicable.

The Town embraces the diversity of our community, and we denounce this terrifying act of hate and Islamophobia.  It is important for us to each bring attention to and speak out against issues of hate, violence, and discrimination whenever we see it.  Each one of us has a right to live a safe life and one that is free of hate.

The Town of Shelburne will lower our flag at Town Hall today and until June 11, 2021, to honour the four members of the Muslim family that died in this senseless and horrid tragedy.
