New Recycling Carts Coming Soon: See the Sizes at Shelburne Town Hall
The Town of Shelburne is sharing a new video featuring Councillor Len Guchardi to help residents learn about the new recycling carts coming to Dufferin County.
To help residents choose the right size by January 15, 2026, both carts are now on display at Shelburne Town Hall. You can visit during regular hours to see the carts, compare their sizes, and decide which one works best for your household.
Here are a few things to think about when choosing your cart size:
- More items can now be recycled, including drink cups, black plastic containers, ice cream tubs, and toothpaste tubes.
- All recycling must fit inside the cart, and the lid must be fully closed for pickup.
- Recycling will still be collected every week.

General Background
Ontario is moving to a new system called extended producer responsibility. This means the companies that make packaging and paper will now pay for and run the recycling program. This change started in 2023 and will be fully in place by 2026. Circular Materials (CM) now oversees the Blue Box program.
Estimated to start in March 2026, every home in Dufferin County will get a new 360‑litre recycling cart. This is the standard size. If this cart feels too big for your home, you can ask for a smaller 240‑litre cart. To get the smaller cart, you must fill out the Recycling Cart Request Form by January 15, 2026.
