Owen Sound Construction Notice - Owen Sound Street Road Resurfacing Project

NOTICE OF PLANNED CONSTRUCTION WORK

OWEN SOUND STREET RESURFACING PROJECT

The Town of Shelburne is scheduled to begin road rehabilitation construction along Owen Sound Street starting July 29, 2024. This start date is weather dependent and subject to change. Construction work is scheduled to take approximately 7 weeks once commenced and will occur between Monday to Friday, from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Weekend work may occur, pending authorization by the Town of Shelburne but would only be minor in nature and cause minimal impacts to residents and traffic.

PROJECT LOCATION

The Owen Sound Street Resurfacing Project will extend the entire municipally owned portion of the roadway, from the Main Street intersection to the Connecting Link transition into Highway No. 10 approximately 170 metres north of Susan Street.

SCOPE OF WORK

Within this project, the following items are scheduled to be completed.

  • Resurfacing of Owen Sound Street with new Hot Mix Asphalt.
  • Construction of new curb and gutter between Jane Street and Susan Street.
  • Drainage improvements between Jane Street and Susan Street.
  • Replacement of sidewalk sections and installation of tactile surface indicators.
  • Construction of a signalized PXO crossing at Fourth Avenue.
  • Replacement of guide rail.
  • Replacement of sidewalk pavers within the downtown core.
  • Other minor infrastructure remediation / improvements along Owen Sound Street.

TRAFFIC IMPACT

Residents can expect traffic disruptions during the entirety of the construction period. One way traffic is to be maintained at all times during working hours and no detours will be put in place to direct traffic down municipal side streets. Two lane traffic will be reinstated at the end of each working day. Flag persons will be on site within the construction zone to ensure traffic safety is always maintained.

Every effort will be made to ensure full access to your driveway for your home or business at the end of each working day. However, at various stages of the works, residents will be required to park vehicles along municipal side streets (i.e.: pouring of concrete curbs, sidewalks, installation of culverts, etc.).

Should any residents have mobility issues that may impact their ability to safely walk to their home from a municipal side street, please reach out to the contact persons below to arrange alternative access provisions.

The Town of Shelburne advises residents to:

  • Avoid parking overnight on Owen Sound Street while under construction.
  • Remove vehicles from Owen Sound Street prior to the commencement of this proposed work.
  • Drive with elevated caution at reduced speeds through all construction zones.
