Reduced Speed Limit 40 Km/h Town Wide
On July 26, 2021 Shelburne Town council, took immediate steps in reducing the Town’s default speed limit from 50 km/hr. to 40 km/hr. Watch the Council Meeting - July 26, 2021
The streets that are not included and remain at 50 km at this time are sections of Main Street and Owen Sound which are the ‘Connecting Link’ and under the authority of MTO. The Town will has requested MTO also reduce the speed limits to 40 km within the Connecting Link - Speed Zone Map
WHEREAS Section 128(2) of The Ontario Highway Traffic Act (R.S.O. 1990 c. H.8) authorizes the Council of a municipality by By-law, to authorize a rate of speed different than that prescribed by Section 128(1) that is not greater than 100 kilometres per hour and may prescribe different rates of speed for different times of day; and,
WHEREAS it is deemed expedient that the speed of motor vehicles on the said Highways or portions of Highways within the Municipality of the Town of Shelburne be restricted and regulated;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Shelburne
enacts as follows:
When any Highway or portion of Highway set out in the attached Schedule "A" and identified as Speed Zones "A", "B" and "C", appended hereto is marked in compliance with the regulations under The Highway Traffic Act, the maximum rate of speed thereon shall be the rate of speed prescribed in each Speed Zone.
- The penalties provided in Section 128( 14) of The Highway Traffic Act shall apply to offences against this by-law.
- THAT Schedule M of By-law #8-1983 prescribing speed limits within the Town of Shelburne be amended and replaced with this by-law.
- This By-law comes into force and takes effect on the date of passing.
