Updated January 14, 2024
The significant weather event ended on Sunday January 14, 2024 at 11:00 am.
Due to the Winter Storm and Snow Fall warnings from Environment Canada the Town of Shelburne has declared a significant weather event.
Environment Canada anticipates snow accumulation of 10 to 25 cm. Peak snowfall rates of 3 to 5 cm per hour. Strong wind gusts resulting in significantly reduced visibility in blowing snow. With the timing to be from this evening (Friday) to Saturday morning. Stay up to date with the Winter Storm Warning through Environment Canada website https://weather.gc.ca/city/pages/on-84_metric_e.html.
Significant Weather Event means an approaching or occurring weather hazard has the potential to pose a significant danger to users of the road network within a municipality. Winter hazards consist of:
- Snow accumulation of 25 cm or more during a 24-hour period.
- Ice formation to last more than a 12-hour period.
- Sustained wind speeds of more than 40 km/hour causing reduction in visibility of 400m or less, over a four-hour period.
When a municipality declares a significant event, the road network is considered to be in a state of repair. Being in a state of repair means that the municipality is providing the best service possible, however, additional cautions should still be observed while using the road network, as it may take longer to perform typical winter maintenance activities.
