The Town of Shelburne has declared a Significant Weather Event – March 3/2023

Updated March 6, 2023

The significant weather event ended on Saturday March 4, 2023 at 4:00 pm.

Due to the Winter Storm and Snow Fall warnings from Environment Canada the Town of Shelburne has declared a significant weather event.

Environment Canada anticipants snow fall rates to be from 4-6cm/h (4-6 cm per hour) with wind gusts of 50-60km/h with the timing to be from 7pm Friday March 3, 2023, to the early morning hours of Saturday March 4, 2023.

A Significant Weather Event means an approaching or occurring weather hazard has the potential to pose a significant danger to users of the road network within a municipality. Winter hazards consist of:

  • Snow accumulation of 25 cm or more during a 24-hour period.
  • Ice formation to last more than a 12-hour period.
  • Sustained wind speeds of more than 40 km/hour causing reduction in visibility of 400m or less, over a four-hour period.

When a municipality declares a significant event, the road network is considered to be in a state of repair. Being in a state of repair means that the municipality is providing the best service possible, however, additional cautions should still be observed while using the road network, as it may take longer to perform typical winter maintenance activities.
