Winter Reminders 2021
Winter reminders
As the Winter Weather is upon us, we would like to remind residents of the following:
Public Works will plow when snow accumulation is 2.5 cm – 6cm or more. Under the Minimum Maintenance Standards (Reg. 366/18), the Town has anywhere between 12 and 24 hours to clear roads that are classified under various categories (for example, primary roads are required to be plowed within a 12-hour period once there is 6 cm or more snow). Sidewalks are cleared within 48 hours when snow accumulation has reached less than or equal to 8 centimeters.
We have set plow routes that are laid out to address streets in an efficient manner. Primary roads such as Greenwood Street, Fiddle Park Lane, Simon Street and Victoria Street will be cleared first, followed by local residential streets, crescents, and courts.
We do our best to clear snow and ice quickly from roadways but winter control can be a challenging task with many factors that impact snow clearing. To help our Public Works team, residents can ensure they are:
- starting on November 15 through April 15 no parking on any roadway between midnight and 8:00am (By-Law #8-1983)
- not obstructing sidewalks
- refraining from passing or following too close to snowplow operator
