CDRC outdoor pool is closed for the season! We will see you in June 2025!
The Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex (CDRC) has a 15 metre by 25 metre, six lane, seasonal heated outdoor pool that offers swimming lessons and recreational programs to our community. The pool is open each year from mid-June to the end of August. If you would like to rent the pool or for more information contact the CDRC pool please see the contact information at the bottom of this page.

Each session consists of 10 swimming lessons offered Monday-Friday.
June swimming lessons are scheduled between 4:00-6:30pm.
Sessions 1-4 of swimming lessons run and are scheduled from 8:00am-12:30pm and 4:30-6:45pm

Preschool 1 (3-5 years) |
These preschoolers will have fun learning to get in and out of the water. We'll help them jump into chest deep water. They'll float and glide on their front and back and learn to get their faces wet and blow bubbles underwater. |
Preschool 2 (3-5 years) |
These preschoolers learn to jump into chest-deep water by themselves and get in and out of the water with a lifejacket. They’ll submerge and exhale underwater. Wearing a lifejacket the will glide on their front and back. |
Preschool 3 (3-5 years) |
These youngsters will try both jumping and a sideways entry into deep water while wearing a lifejacket. They’ll recover objects from the bottom in waist deep water. They’ll work on kicking and gliding through the water on their front and back. |
Preschool 4 (3-5 years) |
Advanced preschoolers will learn to do solo jumps into deeper water and get out by themselves. They’ll do sideways entries and open their eyes underwater. They’ll master a short swim on their front wearing a lifejacket and gliding and kicking on their side. |
Preschool 5 (3-5 years) |
These youngsters get more adventuresome with a forward roll entry wearing a lifejacket and treading water for 10 seconds. They’ll work on front and back crawl swims for 5m, interval training and get a giggle out of whip kick. |
Swimmer 1A (6-12 years) |
These beginners will become comfortable jumping into water with and without a lifejacket. They’ll learn to open their eyes, exhale and hold their breath under water. They’ll work on floats, glides and kicking through the water on their front and back. |
Swimmer 1B (6-12 years) |
These intermediate beginners will jump into deep water and return with a buoyant aid. They’ll learn to recover objects from the bottom in waist deep water. They’ll work on floats, glides and whip kick through the water on their front and back. |
Swimmer 2 (6-12 years) |
These advanced beginners will jump into deeper water and learn to be comfortable falling sideways into the water wearing a lifejacket. They’ll be able to support themselves at the surface without an aid, learn whip kick, swim 10m on their front and back and be introduced to flutter kick interval training (4x5m). |
Swimmer 3A (6-12 years) |
These junior swimmers will dive, do in water somersaults and handstands. They’ll work on 15m of front crawl, back crawl and 10m of whip kick. Flutter kick interval training increases to 4 x 15m. |
Swimmer 3B (6-12 years) |
These swimmers will be introduced to egg beater and dolphin kick. Jump into deep water, tread 45sec, swim 50m. They’ll work on 20m of front crawl, back crawl and 15m of whip kick. Flutter kick interval training increases to 3x25m. |
Swimmer 4 (6-12 years) |
These intermediate swimmers will swim 5m underwater and lengths of front crawl, back crawl, whip kick, and breaststroke arms with breathing. Their new bag of tricks includes the completion of the Canadian Swim to Survive Standard. They’ll cap it off with front crawl sprints over 25m and 4 x 25m front or back crawl interval training. |
Swimmer 5 (6-12 years) |
These swimmers will master shallow dives, cannonball entries, eggbeater kicks and in water backwards somersaults. They’ll refine their front and back crawl over 50m swims of each and breaststroke over 25m. Then they’ll pick up the pace in 25m sprints and two interval training bouts: 4 x 50m front crawl or back crawl and 4 x 15m breaststroke. |
Swimmer 6 (6-12 years) |
These advanced swimmers will rise to the challenge of sophisticated aquatic skills including stride entries, compact jumps and lifesaving kicks like eggbeater and scissor kick. They’ll develop strength and power in head-up breaststroke sprints over 25m. They’ll easily swim lengths of front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke and the 300m workout. |
Swimmer 7 - Rookie Patrol |
Swimmers continue stroke development with 50m swims of front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke. Lifesaving sport skills include a 25m obstacle swim and 15m object carry. First aid focuses on assessment of conscious victims, contacting EMS and treatment for bleeding. Fitness improves in 350m workouts and 100m timed swims. |
Swimmer 8 - Ranger Patrol |
Swimmers develop better strokes over 75m swims of each stroke. They tackle Lifesaving Sport Skills in the Lifesaving medley, timed object support and rescue with a buoyant aid. First aid focuses on assessment of unconscious victims, treatments of victims in shock and obstructed airway procedures. Skill drills develop a strong lifesaving foundation. |
Swimmer 9 - Star Patrol |
Swimmers are challenged with 600m workouts, 300m timed swims and a 25m object carry. Strokes are refined over 100m swims. First aid focuses on treatment of bone and joint injuries and respiratory emergencies including asthma and allergic reactions. Lifesaving skills include defense methods, victim removals and rolling over and supporting a victim face up in shallow water. |
Teen/Adult Swimmer 1 |
Wants to learn how to float, swim 10m, kick 15m and glide 3-5m on their fronts and backs, submerge and exhale under water, tread and Swim to Survive. |
Teen/Adult Swimmer 2 |
Wants to improve their stroke development by swimming 25m of front and back crawl, learn whip kick and breaststroke and how to swim underwater. |
Teen/Adult Swimmer 3 |
Wants to build endurance with a 300m workout, swim 100m of front and back crawl, support themselves at the surface for 1 minute and challenge themselves with a 50m sprint. |

What level should I register in? |
If you are not sure what level to register your child in, contact the CDRC Pool to request a screening from our swim instructors during recreational swim times. |
First day |
On the first day of your lessons, all swimmers will check in at the pool entrance gate to confirm who their swim instructor is. Please inform the instructor if your swimmer is repeating a level. |
Meeting spot |
Classes will meet daily at the same spot. Swimmers will meet at their instructors photo located on the pool side fence. Please wait with young children at the designated meeting area. |
Bathing/swimming attire |
Bathing/swimming attire is defined as clothing that is clean and used specifically for the purpose of swimming, at the facility's discretion. Children who are not toilet trained must wear a waterproof pant (i.e Little Swimmers) under their bathing suit. |

Lesson viewing |
We ask that you watch from outside the pool fencing while your child is in lessons. No spectators will be allowed on the pool deck once the lessons have began. |
Missed classes |
Make-up classes and refunds are not available to students who miss a class. Credits can be requested in writing for absences due to medical reasons. |
Instructor requests |
Contact the CDRC to make instructor requests after you have registered your child in a swim program. We will do our best to accommodate instructor requests, however we cannot guarantee that requests will be granted. |
Low enrollment |
Programs that do not meeting the registration requirements may be cancelled at any time. Programs may also be combined to meet the program enrollment minimums. |
Questions or comments during lessons |
There is a designated on deck instructor who is available to answer questions. This instructor is a lesson expert and can solve most problems quickly. Do not hesitate to speak to one of these staff members at any time during your lessons. Please do not wait until the last class. |
Public swim information | ||||||||||||||||||||
Public swim sessionsPool toys and personal floatation aids are not available to use in the pool during public, family and parent and tot swims this season. Lifejackets are available if needed. Swimmers are encouraged to bring their own lifejackets, provided they are clean and in good condition. Most programs and activities are age specific. We ask that you respect the guidelines which were developed to serve the best interests of all participants, and to ensure an enjoyable experience in our programs. Family and parent & tot swims are targeted to families and caregivers with young children. Adult/senior swims are targeted to adults, seniors and special needs patrons. Lane swims are available to those able to swim lengths. Recreational swimming hours may change due to special events or program needs. Changes will be posted on the website www.shelburne.ca.

Supervision requirements (Admission standards) | ||||||||||||||||||||
Supervision requirements are enforced at all swims and pool rentals. Swimmers who do not meet these standards will not be granted admission to the pool. Please review the following information prior to arriving at the facility.
All children 9 years of age and under must be accompanied by a guardian who is at least 14 years of age and is responsible for their direct supervision. Directly supervisingCaregiver is in the water, eyes on children, able to verbally communicate with children and be able to quickly approach them at any time in the water.

One hour private pool rentals are available on Saturday and Sunday throughout the summer pool season. Pool rentals include qualified lifeguards.

Full payment is due at the time of registration. HST is additional to fees where applicable. A 2.95% processing fee will be applied to online credit and debit card payments. |
Cancellations & refunds |
What happens if I miss a lesson?If you miss a lesson, you will not be rescheduled or refunded. It is always best to check the dates and times that have been scheduled for your lessons. Refunds will not be issued due to weather conditions or pool fouling. Can I receive a refund if I need to withdraw from a program or if it is cancelled?Refunds requested 10 business days prior to the program start date will receive a full refund, less a $35 administration fee. Refunds requested within 10 business days of the program start date will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be issued within 48 hours of the start of the program. A refund will be issued for all programs cancelled by the CDRC. Withdrawal from a program for medical reasons will be considered on an individual basis and may require a medical note. Please allow 4 - 6 weeks to process a refund. Additional fees |
Non-Resident FeeAll programs offered by the CDRC are subsidized by municipal taxes from our funding municipalities, which include: The Town of Shelburne, The Town of Mono, the Township of Amaranth and the Township of Melanchthon. To keep the cost low for residents who contribute to the CDRC, through their municipal taxes, non residents are subject to an additional 6% fee per program, membership, or facility rental as applicable. A non-resident is defined as anyone who does not pay property taxes directly to the funding municipalities. The CDRC reserves the right to request proof of residency.

Changerooms |
All changerooms will be open for the 2023 summer season. |
Accessibility |
The CDRC pool has a chairlift available for getting in and out of the water. When you arrive at the facility contact a staff member for assistance with the proper entrance and equipment. Gradual steps into the water are also available. |
Personal property |
Participants are responsible for their person belongings while participating in programs. The CDRC assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen items. All personal belongings will be left in a designated space on the pool deck. The CDRC encourages participants to arrive at the pool with minimal personal belongings. |
Inclement weather |
Swimming lessons will continue even during rain providing the Deck Supervisor can see the bottom of the pool, specifically the black dot. In the event of thunder and lightning, participants will evacuate the pool, for minimum 30 minutes after the last boom of thunder or lightning. Swim instructors will provide Water Safety and First Aid instruction inside the building. Credits and refunds are not provided for inclement weather. |
Photographs/videos |
All program participants must have completed/signed a waiver for photography. Photographic/video equipment (including personal digital assistants and cellular phones) are not allowed in changerooms, washrooms or program spaces. Taking photos or videos of participants during programs is not permitted. Participants will be asked for written permission to have photographs taken by the media or CDRC staff for promotional purposes. |

Residents of Shelburne are eligible to receive a partial refund of fees (residential to non-residential rate) when the Shelburne outdoor pool is closed. This refund is applicable for learn to swim programs for children only. If you would like to apply for a reimbursement please complete the aquatic program reimbursement form.
