2026 Loose Leaf Collection
Loose Leaf Collection Returns October 19 to November 13, 2026
The Town of Shelburne's annual Loose Leaf Collection Program begins the week of October 19, 2026 and runs until November 13, 2026. Collection dates vary by zone and are weather dependent.
Residents are reminded to check their collection zone and have loose leaves placed on the boulevard by 7:00 a.m. on their scheduled collection day.
*Please note that loose leaf collection is only provided in older neighbourhoods with mature boulevard trees.
Important: Please do not rake leaves to the curb after November 8, 2026. Final collection will be underway that week. Any leaves placed out after crews have completed your area will be the resident's responsibility to remove through Dufferin County's Yard Waste Program, by composting, or by bringing them to a designated drop-off location.

Collection Guidelines
- Do not place, push, or pile leaves on the roadway or over catch basins. This creates safety hazards and can block stormwater drainage.
- Place leaves on the boulevard one or two days before your collection date.
- Leaves must be free of branches, sticks, yard waste, and other debris.
- Remove obstructions such as parked vehicles, sports equipment, and basketball nets near leaf piles.
- Leaves set out after crews have completed your street will not be picked up until the next scheduled collection date.
- The same equipment used for leaf collection is also required for winter maintenance. Snow or freezing conditions may delay collection or end the program early.
- Town staff collect only leaves that have fallen at the time of the scheduled collection. Any remaining leaves are the responsibility of the property owner.
Dufferin County Yard Waste Program
Leaves from trees located on private property, including front and back yards, should be managed through Dufferin County's Yard Waste Program.
Eco-Friendly Alternatives
Mulching, composting, or leaving leaves in garden beds are economical and environmentally friendly ways to manage fall leaves.
- Mulched leaves return nutrients directly to your lawn.
- Composting creates valuable organic material for gardens.
- Leaves left in gardens and naturalized areas provide important habitat for pollinators and beneficial insects during the winter months.
Missed Collection?
Any remaining leaves should be:
- Bagged for Dufferin County's bi-weekly Yard Waste collection.
- Taken to Dufferin Transfer & Recycling.
- Mulched, composted, or left in gardens and landscaped areas.
