Community Feedback Wanted: Backyard Hen Pilot Program

The Town of Shelburne is exploring the possibility of a limited Backyard Hen Pilot Program. This survey is intended to collect feedback from residents before any decisions are made.

The idea of allowing backyard hens was brought forward as a communication item at the Council meeting on May 25, 2026, through correspondence titled “Citizen Proposal – Shelburne Backyard Hen Pilot Program" which requested that residents be permitted to keep backyard hens within town limits.

The survey explores topics such as:

  • General support or opposition
  • Interest in keeping backyard hens
  • Possible program rules and limits
  • Potential benefits and concerns
  • Impacts on neighbourhoods

Residents will also have the opportunity to provide additional comments and help shape how a pilot program could be designed, if pursued.

This survey is an important step in hearing directly from our residents.

The survey is open to all members of the community; however, only responses with valid Shelburne postal codes will be included in the final review.

Residents are encouraged to participate, as feedback will play a key role in determining next steps.

The survey takes approximately 3-5 minutes to complete and will run from June 29, 2026 to July 19, 2026.
