Know Before the Snow: Winter Parking Rules

Winter Parking: What Residents Need to Know

Winter parking regulations help ensure roads can be plowed, salted, sanded, and maintained safely throughout the season.

Why Is Street Parking Prohibited During the Winter?

Winter parking restrictions allow snow clearing crews to safely and efficiently maintain roads and sidewalks. Parked vehicles can delay snow removal operations and prevent streets from receiving the appropriate level of service.

Winter maintenance activities include:

  • Snow plowing
  • Salting
  • Sanding
  • Snow removal

Many of these operations are completed overnight to ensure roads are safe and accessible the following day.

What Are the Parking Restrictions?

Overnight Parking

12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

Overnight parking restrictions apply to all roads within the Town of Shelburne, not just residential streets. Vehicles parked on any roadway during prohibited hours may receive a $40 ticket.

Daytime Parking During Snow Events

During significant snowfall or before roads have been plowed, residents are encouraged to avoid parking on the street whenever possible. Keeping roads clear helps crews complete snow clearing operations more efficiently.

Winter Parking Restrictions

From November 15, 2026, to April 15, 2027, parking is prohibited on all Town roadways between 12:00 a.m. (midnight) and 8:00 a.m., seven days a week.

These restrictions are in effect regardless of weather conditions and are not dependent on snowfall. As outlined in By-law 8-1983, vehicles are not permitted to park on Town roadways during these hours.

Vehicles parked on the roadway during winter operations, overhanging a curb, or blocking a sidewalk may receive a $40 parking ticket.

Parking on Your Driveway Apron

Parking on the apron portion of your driveway is permitted; however, vehicles must remain within the allowable parking area and must not obstruct sidewalks, roadways, or neighbouring properties.

For shared driveways, your vehicle must not impede access for your neighbour.

Please refer to the graphics below for examples of permitted and prohibited parking locations.
