Only Toilet Paper Belongs in the Toilet
Shelburne is seeing a rise in items like wipes, paper towels, and even clothing being flushed causing real problems in the sewer system.
These materials don’t break down like toilet paper and can lead to blocked pipes, sewer backups, and costly damage. They can also create health risks and harm the environment.
Here’s what to remember:
- Flush only toilet paper
- Don’t flush wipes (even “flushable” ones), paper towels, or hygiene products
What to do instead:
- Put wipes, tampons, and paper products in the garbage
- Let fats, oils, and grease cool, then place them in the Green Bin
- Never pour grease down the drain
Even small changes make a big difference in keeping the system running smoothly.
