Proclamation: The Royal Canadian Legion Annual Poppy Campaign
WHEREAS, the poppy has stood as a symbol of Remembrance since 1921, our visual pledge to never forget those Canadians who have fallen in war and military operations; and
WHERAS, from the last Friday of October to Remembrance Day, poppies blossom on lapels and collars to inspire Canadians to Remember the many blessings and freedoms Canadians enjoy today as a result of the sacrifices of those who serve their country; and
WHERAS, the proceeds of the poppy campaign support Canada's serving and retired veterans and their families, while ensuring Canada never forgets.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Wade Mills, do hereby proclaim October 28 to November 11, 2022, as the Royal Canadian Legion Annual Poppy Campaign in the Town of Shelburne and urge all citizens to wear a poppy to show their appreciation and 'support during this Remembrance period.
