The Town of Shelburne is currently accepting applications for Casual Crossing Guards to help keep students and pedestrians safe during the school year.
This on-call position provides coverage as needed during the school calendar year to address operational requirements. As a casual position, there are no guaranteed hours, and successful applicants must be available on short notice when needed.
Crossing Guards play an important role in the community by helping students and pedestrians safely cross roads near schools. Responsibilities include controlling traffic, using clear verbal and hand signals, monitoring safety conditions, reporting incidents when necessary, and following the requirements of the Highway Traffic Act as it applies to school crossing guards.
The role requires sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Crossing Guards are also expected to maintain a friendly and positive attitude when interacting with children, parents, and members of the public.
