We strive to protect and enhance our community. One way we do this is by sharing in the pride that our residents take in their homes and properties. Our municipal By-laws help set standards and protect property and community values. If a By-law is broken, you can file a By-law complaint with the Town.

 View By-laws

Animal control By-law

The Animal Control By-law provides guidelines for keeping animals and community members safe. Review the By-law to learn about dog licences, leashes, animals at large, exotic pets and the standards of animal care.

Cannabis By-law

Cannabis use is regulated by the Municipal Cannabis By-law as well as the Smoke-Free Ontario Act. Within the Town of Shelburne, you are not allowed to smoke or vaporize cannabis in any public space. You can smoke or vaporize cannabis on private property or if you have documentation that allows you to smoke cannabis for medical reasons.

Noise By-law

The Noise By-law outlines quite zones and times within the Town of Shelburne. The purpose of this By-law is to ensure that residents are not disturbing each other with loud noises during certain times of the day. For a full list of quit zones and times, please see the By-law.

Parking and traffic By-law

The Parking and Traffic By-law regulates parking and driving on roads, streets and highways within the Town limits. This includes speeding, parking on shoulders, parking on private property and pedestrians.

Property standards By-law

The Property Standards By-law regulates the maintenance and occupancy standards for all properties in the Town of Shelburne. If any building on your property doesn't meet the minimum standards, you may need to remove all structures, debris and refuse from the property.

Zoning By-law

The consolidated Zoning By-law regulates the use, location, size and height of structures. You will need to review this by-law before you open a business, or complete a new building development or renovation to make sure that your property is zoned for the appropriate land use.
