Walter is currently Councillor for the Town of Shelburne. Walter has been a resident of Shelburne for 35 years previously living and growing up in the Township of Melancthon attending a one room school house. Walter is a graduate of Centre Dufferin District High School. After high school, Walter went to work in construction for ten years until a work related accident changed his life. Walter went back to school and retrained as an electronic technologist at Sheridan College. He has been a past Vice Chair of the Parents Council of both Hyland Heights, and Centre Dufferin District High School and has coached minor hockey, soccer, and lacrosse. Walter has been an executive member of Shelburne Minor Hockey and served as President, he also sat as a member of the Shelburne Minor Soccer executive, and was the Referee in Chief for lacrosse. He has been a member of Shelburne Rotary Club and was their secretary for six years. Walter and his wife Anna have two boys Michael, and Daniel.
Walter has served as a Council member for 20 years and is an active Committee member sitting on several Committees such as the Accessibility Advisory Committee, the Heritage Committee and Economic Development Committee. He has been an appointed representative for the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority for many years as well as a current appointed member of the Provincial Offences Board. Walter has a passion for promoting local Arts, Culture and Recreation and for utilizing the Jack Downing Park to attract tourism to Shelburne.
