Shelburne and District Fire Department - Seeking Volunteer Public Educators
Shelburne Fire Department Launches Volunteer Public Educator Program
The Shelburne & District Fire Department is expanding its community outreach with the launch of a new Volunteer Public Educator initiative.
The Department is currently seeking applicants to join its Fire Prevention Team, with recruitment open until May 31.
Volunteer Public Educators will play a key role in delivering fire and life safety education programs, helping residents understand fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and the proper use of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
Education is one of the most effective tools we have to prevent emergencies. This program will allow us to connect with more residents and provide vital safety information to people of all ages.
Volunteers will engage with a wide range of audiences, including school-aged children, families, and seniors, through presentations, demonstrations, and community events.
Ideal candidates would possess teaching or training experience, along with strong communication and public speaking skills. They should be adept at using a variety of instructional methods to engage different age groups and have knowledge of Ontario Fire Code regulations, particularly those related to smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. A commitment to educating people of all ages from children to seniors on fire and life safety topics is essential.
The role also requires flexibility, as volunteers will be expected to support public education events scheduled during weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays to ensure broad community outreach and engagement.
The opportunity is open to individuals aged 18 and over. While all applicants are encouraged to apply, preference may be given to those with teaching, training, or public speaking experience.
