Town of Shelburne Hiring Policy

The Town of Shelburne Hiring Policy applies to all positions within the Town including full-time, part-time, temporary, seasonal and contract positions. This is applicable to both internal and external candidates.

Current Opportunities

Crossing Guard

The Town of Shelburne is accepting resumes for the position of Crossing Guard - Casual. This is a position with varying shifts during the school calendar year. The candidate must be available for on-call duty on short notice to address urgent operational requirements. There is no guaranteed hours.

Reporting to the Customer Service Coordinator, general duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Control the flow of traffic to allow for the safe, supervised crossing of students and pedestrians.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively using spoken commands and hand signals.
  • Abide by the Highway Traffic Act – as applicable to School Crossing Guards.
  • Reports site safety conditions at designated school crossing location to Coordinator.
  • Document and report incidents to OPP, including reporting vehicles which have failed to obey stop requests.
  • Exercise sound judgment in determining safe opportunities to cross students and pedestrians, based on weather conditions, road conditions, distance and speed of traffic, gaps in traffic and distracted driving.
  • Maintain a friendly and positive attitude towards children, their guardians, and the public.
  • Ability to stand up for up to 2-hour duration per day in inclement weather.
