Town Hall will be closed on Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. The office will reopen on Monday, January 5, 2026 at 8:30 a.m.

The Town of Shelburne recognizes the importance of recognizing local individuals and businesses for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the Town of Shelburne.

Awards

We give out the Melissa Kelly Access Award and the Town of Shelburne Exceptional Achievement Award are given to businesses and not-for-profit organizations that make their premises or service more accessible.

Nominate a business for our accessibility awards

View our Accessibility Awards nomination criteria. You can send all nominations to the Accessibility Advisory Committee at any point in the year.

Your nomination should include:

  • A clear description of the problem that the project addressed
  • The steps taken and resources used to solve the problem
  • Any results or feedback about the project
  • Supporting documentation (photographs, plans, website information) is welcome

The judging committee may visit the business or organization under consideration.

Nominate a business

Shelburne Council recognizes the need to publicly recognize local individuals for their outstanding achievements.

The purpose of the Community Excellence Awards is to recognize achievements in any of the following areas:

  • Civil Achievements
  • Enterprise
  • Academic
  • Citizenship & Volunteerism
  • Humanitarian efforts
  • Long-Term Accomplishments
  • Evidence of Civic Pride
  • Other accomplishments worthy of recognition and based on consensus within the nominating body

Eligibility

To be eligible for this award you must be a resident of Shelburne.

Contributing volunteer or employee of a Shelburne business, institution or service group, student attending a Shelburne educational facility.

The frequency of the award is based on submissions received and not on a structured timeline.

Community Builder Award

Definition

The Community Builder award is given to individuals who have contributed to the economic development and well-being of the Shelburne community. The award honors persons who are making significant contributions to our community through their time, actions, talents, and dedication; outside any volunteer work done.  The honoree(s) selected serves as a role model for compassion, and those striving to make the world a better place.

Criteria

  1. Has not served in a public capacity in the past 3 years
  2. Year over year commitment to community
  3. Activity must have had a measurable impact on the community

Community Engagement Award

Definition

The Community Engagement Award is given to individuals or businesses who have made outstanding contributions to their community, and in doing so, have enriched the lives of others. Each winner has set a high standard for community development, making a significant contribution of time and talent to support the Town of Shelburne.

Criteria

  1. Has not served in a public capacity in the past 3 years
  2. Volunteer work must be considered beyond the individuals' professional duties and does not receive compensation for such
  3. Volunteer work must have had a measurable impact on the community

Business and Community Excellence Award

Definition

The Business and Community Excellence Awards celebrate individuals and/or businesses who have contributed to the fabric and growth of our community. Their entrepreneurial spirit, leadership and best business practices exemplify the meaning of “community” The award recognizes those who have helped move our community and economic vision forward.

Criteria

  1. Has not served in a public capacity in the past 3 years
  2. Year over year commitment to community
  3. Activity must have had a unique impact on the community

Public Service Excellence Award

Definition

The Public Service Award celebrates those who have made a difference in improving service(s) to the public, demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and strong ethics and have contributed to the economic development of the community.

Criteria

  1. Has not served in a public capacity in the past 2 years
  2. Previous years of service have shown considerable impact to economic or community growth
  3. On going mentorship towards the community continues

EDC Nomination Form

Each year, the Town of Shelburne honours an individual who is 65 years of age or older for their outstanding contributions to the Shelburne community.

Senior Achievement Award nomination

Nominations close June 15.

  • Fitness, recreation or sport
  • Humanitarian activities
  • Preservation of history
  • Voluntarism
