Business Workshops

We are excited to present a series of free business workshops designed to equip you with the latest tools and strategies for success. Sessions will cover how AI can transform your small business, essential knowledge on protecting your enterprise from cyber threats, and insights into the future of digital marketing. Additionally, an interactive session on creative hiring and retention strategies will feature an expert panel and hands-on activities.

The workshops will also be an opportunity for Shelburne Economic Development to gather information. Shelburne Economic Development is crafting a 5-year Action Plan to guide our community's growth and prosperity. We seek input from everyone who works or lives in Shelburne. During the workshops, time will be dedicated to gathering insights on current local economic conditions, identifying opportunities, and prioritizing future actions. 

Your involvement is crucial in shaping strategies that will drive Shelburne's economic development. Join us for these enriching workshops designed to propel your business forward!

Ishan Angra is the client engagement lead for the research and strategy firm Collective Results. With a background in education and public health and a passion for community driven research, he enjoys supporting projects that result in practical and impactful outcomes. During the workshops, Ishan will be gathering data, insights and stories to support the development of the Town of Shelburne economic action plan.

Emily advocates for a human-first approach to AI. She teaches at McMaster University.

Participants will learn about common cyber threats, best practices for safeguarding sensitive information, and practical steps to enhance their cybersecurity posture - The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security.

 
 

Workshop Host Jonathan Wismer

Jonathan Wismer workshop host: Safeguard Your Business: Cyber Security in the Digital Age 

Jonathan Wismer works on the Cyber Security Guidance team at the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security. His team provides foundational advice and guidance supporting Canada’s Critical Infrastructure (CI) sectors. Most recently, his team released the Cyber Security Readiness Goals (CRGs), intended to serve as baseline advice for all CI sectors in Canada. Jonathan previously worked in the Cyber Centre’s defensive cyber planning group, along with other areas of the Communications Security Establishment. He has significant experience working with domestic and international partners on national security efforts. Jonathan holds a post-graduate degree in Security and Defence Management and Policy, an undergraduate certificate in Applied Cybersecurity, and a post-graduate certificate – along with a keen interest - in Industrial Control Systems security. Jonathan also volunteers on the board of a charity, Camp Aftermath, supporting veterans and first responders and spent, following over 10 years working as a Combat Engineer in the Reserves.

Workshop Hosts      Workshop Host: Dana Gidge, RLB, Alexandra Magder, Stephanie Williams
Dana Gidge

Dana shows dedication and care in everything she does. She has been an HR professional for most of her career and her passion started early as she realized the best part of HR was relationship building. She enjoys creating an environment where employees can think big, have fun, and do good work. She understands that people are a business’ best asset and working on engaging employees is rewarding for all involved. Dana is well versed in many HR functions but her many years in the manufacturing industry has given her valuable experience in health and safety, training and development and legislative compliance. She is no stranger to hands on work and draws from a diverse knowledge base. She is certified in WSIB, ISO 14001 (environmental) and many other Quality Standards (ISO, QS and TS) and is a Certified Human Resources Leader.

Her ability to make relationships makes her a valued member of the RLB HR consulting team. What makes client work interesting and rewarding for Dana is the relationship that she forms with the client. They trust her and in return she ensures they receive the best personal service and top notch HR practices in the industry.

Dana’s unrelenting passion outside HR is her family. She married her university sweetheart and moved to Ontario. She is the mother of two active boys who keep her on her toes! She knows what hard work is and prides herself on passion for her job, her family and her friends. She is a regular volunteer at her son’s schools, a Director on the Guelph District Human Resources Professional Association and a Sunday school small group leader at her church.

  

Alexandra Magder

Alexandra is the co-owner of a multidisciplinary health and wellness clinic, recognized both provincially and locally for its exceptional work in the industry. Under her leadership, the clinic has grown from a team of two to over 25 employees within five years.

She is committed to embracing AI technologies to streamline both recruitment, administrative processes and treatment, enhancing the experience for patients and employees alike.

Prior to opening the clinic in Shelburne with her husband, Alexandra was the first Social Media COE and Director for General Motors Canada, overseeing brands such as Cadillac, Chevy, GMC, and Buick. In this role, she represented the Canadian business line and collaborated with international teams to advocate for social media adoption and governance across all GM divisions. Alexandra successfully led and managed several agencies, handling multiple departments including paid social, analytics, content creation, influencer programs, governance, social media management software, and government relations. She also worked on high-priority projects with GM Canada and GM International, which included leveraging social media as a recruitment tool for software engineers in the autonomous technology sector.

 

Stephanie Williams

Stephanie enjoys her current role as an Employment Services Consultant within the Career and Community Employment Services at Georgian College. In this role, she supports members of the Dufferin community, primarily youth with guidance on becoming and staying employed. Stephanie provides clients with employment related supports and coaching to alleviate and significantly reduce their individual barriers to attaining and keeping work. Stephanie also creates content for and facilitates job search related topics as well as one-on-one coaching sessions. Stephanie works with growing employers in Dufferin County to effectively develop work experiences for and with clients. 

Stephanie has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Resource Management from York University. Stephanie’s talent to communicate effectively with clients and employers with both empathy and thoughtfulness has proven to be a great strength, especially as it relates to communicating with the diverse groups within the Dufferin community. 

Stephanie absolutely loves to volunteer, especially when it comes to programs involving youth. She is an avid crime and history podcast listener who loves to walk and stay active by playing tennis, badminton and utilizing her home gym. 

 

Diana Morris

Diana Morris is the Executive Director of the Dufferin Board of Trade (DBOT) and an Accredited Chamber Executive. She holds a diploma in Business Marketing and a certificate in Human Resource Management from St. Clair College and has taken the Certificate in Economic Development program at the University of Waterloo.

Diana joined DBOT in 2015 after relocating to Dufferin to pursue farming in the Hills of Mulmur with her husband. Together with their two teenage daughters, they are raising field crops, a small herd of pygmy goats, a few pigs, and some chickens. Building on her extensive experience in finance, marketing, and organizational management, Diana is committed to advancing the Dufferin business community through strategic initiatives and fostering connections that drive economic growth.

Our programs integrate financial literacy, business strategy, and leadership development, ensuring students gain real-world skills that prepare them for the future. Owner and Founder: Suzette Daley

Suzette Daley has been a resident of Shelburne for over a decade. With 20 years of experience as a salon owner, she also managed an after-school tutoring program called MINIINTEL. Specializing in youth development, Suzette has been running her entrepreneur program in various school boards for the past two years. Last year, this initiative led to the launch of ten youth businesses in Shelburne. Additionally, she has authored three books and established after-school reading programs throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

 The annual Shelburne EDC and Rotary Golf Tournament represents a powerful collaboration that has been driving community development since 2020. Shaun is an experienced commercial lending professional and exceptionally motivated leader with over 25 years in business development, commercial banking, and advisory services. He has worked at BDC for the last 24 years where he has held leadership roles in small business and mid-market lending strategy and operations. He has been the leader for BDC’s team in the Brampton area (Brampton, Bolton, Caledon, Orangeville, Shelburne) since 2021 and is passionate about helping entrepreneurs and the future of banking, including how to adapt technologies to optimize the client experience.  Shaun has an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Wilfrid Laurier University.

The Shelburne EDC and Rotary Club of Shelburne are pleased to invite you to join us for the EDC\Rotary Golf Classic on June 6, 2024. 

This incredible tournament, held at the Shelburne Golf Course, is an event that many look forward to as a time to celebrate successes within our business community. The partnership of the Shelburne EDC and Rotary has proved to be a great combination since 2020 and we look forward to building on this success into the future. 

This tournament was instrumental in securing the $300,000 raised to make the Splash Pad for Shelburne a reality. It opened late last summer! 

The EDC/Rotary Golf Tournament will once again, in 2024, serve as a fundraiser in support of Recreation and Accessible Parks in Shelburne. 

The success of this event relies on the generosity of sponsors. See attached for a wide range of sponsorship opportunities with valuable benefits and promotion. Please help us continue our work to help support recreation in Shelburne Parks. 

This year we will have a shotgun start at noon and after 18 Holes of golf there will be a sit-down dinner in the Club House. The tournament will once again be a time of networking, great golf, delicious food and fun, all the while raising money for great community projects.

The band starts with the founding members, Geoff and Ryan.

This duo has developed a chemistry that is seldom matched, and using a one-of-a-kind hand drum, acoustic guitar and excellent vocals from both, the duo can fill a room with as much sound as most bands and incorporate the audience like no other. Bring in Dennis on Keyboards and vocals for the trio and take the sound to a whole other level! With a song list of over 200 songs, they can please any audience! 

5-piece band Campfire Poets

From their start in small pubs, 'The Poets' have become a favourite of the summer festivals including Caledon's Canada day celebration, Woodbridge and Orangeville Rib Fest, Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival and Founder's Day celebration. 

 

 

 

  • Drew Ripley Entertainment

Building a life out of balloons was not the original plan, yet as a full-time artist, Drew has discovered a medium that can stir the emotions and create the unexDrew Ripley Balloon artist standing on a cannon firing balloons made to look like smoke pected. Ideally, every piece will create a positive memorable reaction. While his art focuses on the balloons, technology rigging, and acting skills are required to create the most difficult projects. As an entertainer, his desire is to leave a sense of whimsy and delight with the audience. Created in 2009, Drew operates an entertainment company that specializes in one-of-a-kind Balloon Art, Décor, and Entertainment. He uses his finely tuned balloon skills to create one-of-a-kind balloon shows, costumes and displays. His talents have led him to several major projects in Canada, the USA, Qatar, and even Israel. These one-of-a-kind projects are designed for major events and typically use a minimum of 40,000 balloons.

A natural-born vocalist, soul singer & songwriter Clerel nurtured his taste for melody in his coastal hometown of Douala, Cameroon, where he grew up listening to music from his parents’ record collection, which ranged from church hymns and afrobeat to French chanson.

As a child, he developed a habit of singing his favorite songs to himself as a way to “listen” to them whenever he desired, an exercise that helped hone his signature smooth tone.Clerel Singer song writer

While he's spent most of 2020 working on a new collection of songs, Clerel has also appeared on reality TV show La Voix (The Voice Canada), and earlier this summer he took part in the Montreal International Jazz Festival, where he gave a highly acclaimed performance of his original music in front of an audience of over 3000 spectators. Charlie EdwardCharlie Edward is a 20 year old young gun originally from London, Ontario. ROCK N ROLL was what this kid was born to do. After some time in LA working with Foreigner’s Jeff Pilson, Charlie caught the attention of Marlon Young who discovered/produced Greta Van Fleet and plays guitar for Kid Rock. He has also worked with the likes of Garth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine), Robert DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots), Luke Bentham (The Dirty Nil), Colin MacDonald (The Trews) and many more. Usually seen on the side-lines playing lead guitar for other acts or writing music in private, Charlie decided to take a risk and put it all out there after some encouragement from fellow musicians in California.He may be small in stature but this kid will SET YOU STRAIGHT with his wide vocal range and monster guitar tones.

Project Objectives

To ignite Jack Downing Park through arts, culture, and entertainment.

History

BIG Move #8 - Redesign Jack Downing Park, to become the community’s living room. Jack Downing Park is strategically located Downtown Shelburne, and in 2022 the Town converted the park into a space that is ready to host a wide range of community-based outdoor programming/activities – communities living room.

Outcomes

Facilitation of free events to ignite JDP and increase consumer traffic to the downtown core and engage business partners, through event collaboration.

Shelburne EDC/Rotary Golf Classic

SAVE THE DATE – EDC \ ROTARY GOLF CLASSIC JUNE 8TH 2023

The Shelburne EDC and Rotary Club of Shelburne are pleased to invite you to join us for the EDC\Rotary Golf Classic on June 8, 2023.

This incredible tournament, held at the Shelburne Golf Course, is an event that many look forward to as a time to celebrate successes within our business community. The partnership of the Shelburne EDC and Rotary has proved to be a great combination since 2020 and we look forward to building on this success into the future.

This tournament was instrumental in securing the $300,000 raised to make the Splash Pad for Shelburne a reality. In 3 years, this event raised approximately $55,000 to ensure that kids will be splashing this summer. Construction has already begun!

The EDC/Rotary Golf Tournament will once again, in 2023, serve as a fundraiser in support of features for Recreation, Fun and Accessible Parks in Shelburne.

New this year the Registration Reception, before heading out to the course, enjoy light snacks and an opportunity to network before the shotgun start at noon. After 18 Holes of golf there will be a sit-down dinner in the Club House.

The tournament will once again be a time of networking, great golf, delicious food, and fun, all the while raising money for great community projects.

Volunteer Position

Rovers:

The Rover position is responsible for rotating through various locations on the golf course throughout the day and providing breaks, answering questions, and helping as needed at the Tournament.

We encourage our volunteers to engage their friends to come help on event day!

 

Requirements:
  • Comfortable talking with people
  • Able to remain in place for long periods
  • 18 years or older
  • Valid Driver’s Licence
